WHAT IS TIRAC?
TIRAC is a supra-autonomous Operative Group whose purpose is to reduce the consumption of antibiotics against digestive problems in fattening rabbits, ensuring their health and profitability for the farmer, applying innovative techniques in the field of nutrition. Currently, reducing the use of antibiotics is the main challenge facing the rabbit sector.
This innovation project focuses on studying various nutritional strategies—feed formulation with a low protein level, a correct amino acid profile and a balance in the level of soluble and insoluble fiber, together with the incorporation of macroalgae and/or extracts of algae—in rabbits with the aim of improving intestinal health and therefore allowing a reduction/elimination of the use of antibiotics. At the same time, the aim is to achieve better quality meat (with a heart-healthy lipid profile, higher mineral content and antioxidant potential) and enhance the algae production sector.
